I was fidgeting around on Trulia.com the other day when I came across this post from a buyer looking into the Boise area.  She was looking for some insight into what areas of Boise are good and what areas are not so good.

Here's what I posted:

Sw,

Tim is right, there are fair housing laws that restrict from
"steering" you to a specific neighborhood or away from one too. But,
the Fair Housing laws say nothing about making assessments about a
neighborhood and providing an opinion. The Fair Housing law is trying
to protect you against discrimination. Fair enough.

I don't know you, never met you, so it would be particularly hard
for me to discriminate against someone I've never met nor seen…..Not
only that, there is no reason for me to NOT recommend the area of town
where I live!

Boise is a great area! It's a great time for me when I have the
chance to tour people around and show them the different areas of town.
I grew up here and have lived in most parts of town, even Meridian. I
finally settled in Southeast Boise. In our MLS, it's considered area
300.

Here are some of the reasons I enjoy Southeast Boise:

First off, it's got very good infrastructure as far as traffic is
concerned. Boise doesn't have too much traffic, especially compared to
Anaheim, but relatively, there are areas of Boise where the traffic
design is outdated or poorly thought out. Southeast Boise is easy to
access; the freeway is easily accessible, shopping is accessible and
downtown is just minutes away. There are also good transportation
alternatives; bus, walking and bicycle.

The Boise River winds it's way through town, but is most accessible
in the Southeast Boise area. There is a greenbelt that follows the
river from the East end of town all the way out to Eagle, ID. If you
like taking beautiful strolls or riding your bicycle, Southeast Boise is
a safe and bicycle friendly part of town.

I also like the good mix of homes we have in Southeast Boise. There
are condo's, townhomes and single family homes that range from the low
100,000's (if not under 100,000 for a fixer-upper) up to your high end
river front or view properties. You'll notice that as you head west
throughout the valley, through and beyond Meridian, your money might be
able to buy you more square footage and more amenities, but you are
moving into a more homogeneous, suburb type feeling, within a sea of
homes accessorized, by strip malls and big box stores. There are plenty
of great areas strew about the valley, not just the Southeast Boise
area.

Southeast Boise shares the MLS border with Northeast Boise, another
great part of town. As you get closer to downtown, Northeast Boise
homes tend to represent the more historical side of town, but as you
move to the East, upriver, the homes become newer and more modern.
Currently in Northeast Boise there is some development going on that
offers some amazing amenities with regard to construction and price, but
it also gives you access to the great 'natural' amenities of Southeast
and Northeast Boise! I can email you some specifics if you like.

There are many great things about East Boise, but I'll leave you
with one of the best reasons to live here. Popularity. While we may
have all grown out of wanting to be popular, living in an area that
people love to call home is the best asset any neighborhood can have.
Many out of staters are naturally drawn to Southeast Boise for it's
beauty, creativity and functionality. And when they finally do move
here, they love it. They take care of it and they look out for one
another. Don't confuse popularity with population. It's not an area of
town where growth is taking over or wherever you look you see 'just
another subdivision', no, its not like that. Southeast has been
developed and is occupied by people who take care of their stuff and
take care of their neighborhood! The same can't be said for many other
parts of town.

Again, having lived in Boise for my whole life, I can show you the
pros and cons of just about any area of town and most of Eagle and
Meridian and inspite of my strong preference for my end of town, there
are some other great areas too.

As an outsider, you'll want to know the "local buzz" on what areas
are the best and I encourage you to seek the local opinions. Chances
are, you'll find that many people love the area I just talked about, but
you may also hear about other areas too. That's because, Boise is
really a great place to live!

I've put together a video on my own while doing some promotion for
one of the last developed neighborhoods in Southeast Boise. While it's
specific to Bown Crossing (new mixed use development) it does show some
of the great things about Southeast Boise. Check it out! Also, I'll
link you to my blog where you can read about market updates and get a
fresh view of real estate, not the same kool-aid drinking "the market is
getting better" type stuff. You'll find that I'm honest and don't mind
sharing the truth about our town and our market.

Southeast Boise video (again it mainly highlighs Bown Crossing, you
get the idea :) ):
